White Frenchness and Brocante Lighting

"Burlap Luxe Home"

My new old thrift find; I am enamored with this find.
For centuries France has produced, safe to say the best lighting but, along with that is their pricey tags.

You can often find reproductions and antiques that hold great tag sales as well as, estate sales and antique dealers but, when a great old reproduction comes along you might have to upstyle its dated look as I did here.

GoodWill find $7.00 in a garishly dated 1970's Lime Green &Yellow paint finish. It had the right shape and a surprise to being wood it allowed me to strip it down and add a chippy wash of white to it.

Having the right subtle and harmonious colour adds to the atmosphere of any rustic
French home.

I am pleased with the paint treatment I gave it, the little splits in the wood add the right kind of rightness to its age.

I never undervalue lighting when a piece can pull off that rustic French role
it will play in a room.

Inspiring white Frenchness with a hint of lavender.

Where mini trees will fill its space with the beauty of all is calm.
All Is Calm is this years new sign, also adding White Christmas to my peaceful etsy shop.
This SIGN is an all around the year sign, yet so perfect for the HOLIDAYS!

"ALL IS CALM"
This signs verbiage was taken from the Christmas song Silent Night,
Silent Night is the most famous Christmas carol of all time!
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Better To Be Born Lucky Than Rich

"click on photos to enlarge details"

Lucky me,Blessed me! that a 1952 Ethan Allen Furniture Company china chest dark nutmeg in color, solid mahogany wood French chest found me, and this is what a little paint patina I gave it, did for it.

There is a wise saying that it is "Better to be born lucky than rich" I am glad I am the lucky part. Having a passion for junk shops and flea markets with a strong appreciation for objets d'art at a very young age of teens I would find junk to decorate with creating a room to love. This passion led me to a design career with a true love for all things salvaged with French roots.

In my hunt for the next salvage piece to recycle I glance over at all the cast offs and let the piece call to me listening to what it wants to become. A piece that as the French refer to as "dans so jus"- it hadn't been repaired, painted, or polished in years taking it from what was once a beautiful piece that dated itself, to now giving it the rustic French feel it so longed for. The big shocker was a tag price of $42.00 dollars making this an easy and excited yes piece. It measures 35"1/2 in height 35" in length 19" in depth this is a piece I could talk myself into keeping but it will be going to my shop over the weekend finding its way into a home that will feel that same excitement of a great find, and where it will tell them it wants to be placed.

If I talk myself into keeping it, I think it will become my guest bathroom vanity buy adding the wash bowl and faucet to it. As for all dealers and designers our homes tend to reflect our finds or what is in our design stock with objects and pieces that get replaced time to time purely for the soul and history in the piece up-grading with regularity, this is the nature of what goes along with the hunt and the business of the next sell.

This piece called for a patina paint finish of age-layers washed with subtlety with rustic French that seems to have been around for years.

Another French laundered find is the French hand towels so euro flea market I added to my home and I have bundled up extras in rag ties on their way to my shop.

Inspiring rustic, the formality of its rustic beauty.

Grandpas Old Door

"Click on photo to enlarge detail"

Inspiring the connection this door made with me.

This is a how the side table looked before I placed my grandparents 200 year old dinning room door behind it as a back drop to recycled finds adding a perfectly pale pallette of grey.

As a child I remember opening this door often on my visits to there desert home in Action California. It was a door that opened to the history of there weekend home allowing them to find peace and calm from the busyness of Hollywood where my grandfather was an "art producer" for "Paramount Movie Picture Studios" It was a home that at times was used for filming movies in, but most important a home where we enjoyed the holidays and the quiet it whispered.
I think I am the only family member since the passing of my grandparents that understood the story this door had and I made sure that it came home with me as if it were more than what it is rather than less than what it is paying close attention to it's life. A door now that leads nowhere other than the memories it holds, memories that all things have a story and a place in the journey.

I am giving this door space to show off its beautiful imperfections and the soul it has acquired. The beauty of using these treasure in our homes is you don't have to be picky in what you have acquired, the history in themselves set a tone for story telling and the story in this door is mine.

Inspiring the connection this door made with me.

To { inspire } and be { inspired }

My Iron bed custom designed with a patina that accomplishes an aged old life.

Collective soul; to inspire and be inspired.
Old pieces hold a certain charm that new pieces can't compete with. Decorating with simple pieces and found objects that hold the presence of history in them allows them to make conversation with the room rather then its own story of mass production.

Keeping it simple and relaxed with removing some of the clutter and oh so pale with a fresh coat of paint.

I don't like a lot of colour, thoughts of the way I view my home is letting the pieces blend in making a quiet impression while each room connect to another, even as the rooms take on new pieces I can relax sensing the rooms love it to.

Stacking empty picture frames from yard sales or tag sales lightens the feeling in how artistically carefree one lives and these frames add to my home and my soulful artistic heart adding peace and a vision for what I imagine painted in them.

My soul glorifies and my spirit rejoices.

Made out of my salvaged chair spindles that were piled in a corner of a cobwebbed corner of my working scraps. Who knew such winter beauty of peace could be created and embellished with bits and pieces thought to have no use. This is a piece soon to be featured in my peaceful etsy shop.

I focus my creative finds on pleasing my home, this inspiring box plans to live a new future in my peaceful pale home where you can hear its small voice inspiring.

Rural French Washed In Grey

"Click On Photos To Enlarge Details"

My friends who know me would say that their is a tool in one hand and a paint brush in the other altering the well lived life of a piece creating a piece to treasure. I took this overly loved chest of drawers with hidden charm and gave it intense practicality. I took and removed all drawers and added shelves to it like the chest of drawers I altered in my older posting, but this one I removed the scalloped wood base trim work and cut new trim base from an old step ladder, it's functioning now as a storage cabinet filled with objects for everyday use rural French in style.

The kitchen inspired this piece by using natural materials I had on hand, it's designed to play a part with each object that speaks for itself, French textiles and linens, pottery as well as sliver in a palette of hues ranging from creams, greys and whites. I am passionate about rural French pieces that wildly call out to you, gathering and collected that come together to make a unique and passionate home appreciating the pieces for their soul (rather than value.)

Mixing eras is the easy part to a great display of French flea market brocante, yet keep it organized with an understanding of your own vision. My vision is staying within a colour palette of smokey grey's, dingy whites and well worn creams a back drop to live peacefully with giving the eyes a soft place to land on with rural French living washed in grey.

I knew I had to then paint this piece adding to it's charm of rural French and distressing it as if time got the best of it letting the little dings and fractures shadow through the layers of paint.

Pictured is the base trim I cut from the side legs of this ladder by removing the scalloped trim and adding the ladder trim to the base I was able to create a less recognizable dated piece adding rural charm to this piece was a plus.

The "Seawashed" note cards are created by a dear friend Kerrie at seacottage.blogspot.com they can be purchased from her artful etsy. I fell in love with Kerrie's sketched and seawashed shells and so will you. I used Kerrie's note cards as invites to a luncheon using my imagination for a South of France themed luncheon. The shell art was perfect and Kerrie's artful hands made them unique and so very personal. If you have not visited her site please do as often as your heart can take it.

Let the piece tell you what it wants to be.
