Living an
AUTHENTIC
LIFE

by  Dore  Callaway

On the fringe of life, I found myself being the curator to
what was unfolding within me and in my design life. One
morning in January of 2010, I awoke to an encouraging,
meaningful quote by George Bernard Shaw: "Life isn't
about finding yourself, Life is about creating yourself."

 Somerset Life magazine feature...
Pages 36-45

 It's The rustic AND
romantic MIX THAT CREATES
A well-loved home.

Everything I bring into my Southern California home calls out
in flaws through design artistry, hinting at the history; it makes
for an inspiring place.
I am proud of my home and its authentic
French countryside spirit.

I embrace a dusty pale palette of
darker shades of white influenced by distressed, tarnished, and
gently tattered remnants and objects.

I use my imagination to see that no object is hopeless if
looked at with vision and purpose.

Thank You

French Nordic And Grey Spring

 Burlap Luxe Home
Natural nature, where a grey garden has spring in waiting.

What is it about assorted shapes of glass that welcomes the beauty of spring.

 Awaiting the tight buds awakenings.

Optimism, " If you have a garden filled with birds,
You have everything."

"On a quiet day, I hear them sing sounds of spring."
~Dore
I never doubt the thoughtfulness of spring.
 Nature never disappoints.

Restored Rural Romance. "I Took My Time."

Burlap Luxe Home Designs

Painted by Dore Callaway (Me)

A restored antique Century furniture chest I acquired from a local thrift shop.
I stripped it down to it's rawness so I could see the beauty it is. I loved the
lines, and its centuries-old charm. The top cabinet is married to the side-
board chest.

The less then generous fit with the cabinet leaves space on each end to
catch rustic's that land.

I added new hardware glass knobs aged with crusty homemade plaster paint.
Knobs (Lowes)

The Cabinet

The cabinet is a seperate piece purchased from another local thrift for $30.00
It belonged to another piece, and it being seperated was my good fortune.
The cabinet had glass shelving, and I added aged wood shelves;
the backing was flimsy so I added bead board backing to a piece of plywood
that would allow me to hang someday if desired.

I painted the cabinet to blend seamlessly with the side-board chest I painted
2 years ago; giving it a lime washed finish.

I am so pleased with the mixing of two seperate antiques pieces inspiring one
rural rustic piece.

It now sits in my home studio office where my art and designs take place.
I love the accumulation of things it can hold, and the life I gave these two
old castoffs.

I added a bit of black paint washed into the wood grain giving it an old
world finish; it adds to its aged feel and look.

A rubbed off finish to the wear of its paint finish.
Even the hardware received a bit of paint aging.

I love entering this room that inspires the art and designs I create.

Burlap Luxe Home In White

Inspiring a two drawer French Chest that now replaces the coffee table. After being inspired to paint a chest that has hung around in my homes for the last 25 years. I was inspired to paint it white and then paint and distress the surface with a French weathered patina to it. I love the look and feel of a French chest replacing a coffee table.

Une fête de vacances à Paris France

Just knock at her chateau door for a holiday party in Paris France at our friend Anita's at...http://wwwcastlescrownscottages.blogspot.com/ link party. I adore this lady and all her French ways.

Looking out the window of the plane with great excitement in landing in Paris to then arrive at Anita's Chateau where the romance of France and friends begin.

Oh my! And look who sat on the plane next to me! French actor "Gerard Depardieu" while in our wonderful conversation I invited him along, I hope you don't mind Anita but he is really game for some French partying!
Anita effortlessly mastered the art of this party inviting all who wanted to come and of course I made sure there was cake. As the cake arrived in a graceful hurry and custom baked, I could not let this moment get by without a photo taken.
What a sight, the elegance of her entry invites us into her chateau castle of crowns and beautiful mirrors and chandeliers such time-honored beauty that soulfully produces gracious results leaving you speechless. I felt honored to spend time in her French guest room of beauty, the everyday elegance (élégance rustique) was every bit her design style in following her heart in every detail she added to the room, I don't ever want to leave.

Practical rustic French brocante sophistication in a guest cottage, so inspiring for a French heart.

A neutral patina old-world finishes filled with history for relaxed French country elegance that fills your soulful desires living in a cottage lifestyle setting.

Brocante shopping in France for my French country home.

Lot's of French kissing in Paris France...Life is too short...so kiss me slowly...

Though I often looked for one, I finally had to admit that there could be no cure for Paris.
