Column serves as a night-table adding a sense of innocent in country French. An antique pitcher filled with fresh clippings embraces a room that feels put together. |
In a French bed-room linen drapes or curtain panels are generously flounced. |
Sharply defined cypress trees painted in oils add richly in its shapely aged gold frame. A favorite surprise in a room of aged whites. |
A tattered cotten hem adds to the feeling of less care, rustic in every way. Yet softens the harder edges of bold iron feet and scalloped footboard. |
A casual distressing in French rural cottage style. Thank you for visiting my small cottage bedroom. xx bisous Dore |

A very quiet and peaceful room with all the right elements to make it romantically French. Love.

I love the bed and actually the whole room Dore. You seem to have a way of making things feel peaceful and calm. Lovely!
This room is French rural cottage style at its best!!
LOVE the use of the column as a night table. And that iron bed it to. die. for. Your elegant style is so inspiring, Dore!!!

Dore love it all ....can you tell me more about the bed cover in the last picture
Merci Lorraine
Dear sweet Dore, I have not been able to visit my beloved bloggers very much over the summer because of arthritis in my hands. Having spent the last half hour going over your posts, I see I have missed so much.I love the way you married up the 2 pieces(the chest and the cabinet). I still have a hutch I purchased over a year ago and am waiting to find a piece to pair with it.
The French Quarter lantern fixture you purchased is wonderful. I purchased a shiny brass one quite some time ago and finally got around to spray painting it black a couple of weeks ago--not easy with the hands. It is not nearly so old as yours, nor does it have such charm, but I am happy with it now hanging in my family room. Your entire house, including Hannah's room is so inspiring and it was so much fun catching up on all you have been doing. I hope my hands will improve a lot more, so I can continue to blog and visit those blogs I love so much. Take care, dear friend!
The room is beautiful and serene in its simplicity, Dore. Everything is so thoughtfully put together. What a perfect place to end the day.
Doré,
A holiday filled with rain and seeing your new post truly is like sunshine. Your bedroom is amazing in it's simplicity it speaks of sophistication ... Your French iron bed, beautifully patina whiteness, hand painted in your signature talent is SUBLIME. Grandeur in it's scrolls and architectural design but with the austerity of the room it becomes calm, peaceful and rural French.
Matelassé is always beautiful and in white always understated perfection. A staple in our home although in our climate half the year a down comforter shares in dressing the bed.Your column is gorgeous, as you know I have a weakness for them ;-)
Peaceful rest in your beautiful room.
XOXO,
Vera
so beautiful and peaceful. Rita
Serene and beautiful. I long for our guest room to look as this. It's on my growing list of redecorating our home and we haven't even finished our master bedroom yet.
I adore your style, as I always say, I know.
I truly adore that Cypress oil, it calls my name.
xo Rhonda
What a peaceful room. I love every aspect of it. The inviting bed, the painting, the patina...Love it all.
I love it. Its simple and beauty its peacefully and warm...Oh i love it! Greetings from Germany Justys
Oh Doré,
this Quilt is so unique and beautiful, and also I love this plain linen pillow so much. I am saoking in these impressions to motivate me. I have collected stocks (!) of old linen, but I need the push of inspiration to FINALLY do it, take out this machine and start - ah, thank you so much for the inspiration!! We have a fotoshooting here again, but then... I will look at your beautiful inspiring post one more time to start... sewing and quilting, ohhhh yesss - as my old stuff is torn and battered (and this is a not very decorativ way ;))
So, have a wonderful day, this bedroom is just french and charming as it could be,

Bonjour ma belle!
Lovely in every way. Every corner refined, yet simple. Every texture is rough and rustic, which adds that LUXE...what a wonderful riddle and harmony this makes!
We just had our rustic French country exposed beams installed yesterday. I am beyond excited. The only thing I wish was that I would have been able to get the more white-washed color to the wood, but I AM HAPPY with them. We found the lightest stain we could but the color is dark. However, the roughness of the wood combined with our chandelier and other refined pieces is a marriage of luxe and aged simplicity.
WONDERFUL ROOM - a perfect place pour la sieste!!!!!!!
My favorite time of day is when I'm just waking up. When dreams are interlaced with the soft dawn light, and dreamworld ideas fill my head.
You must dream in French, Dore. Everything is lovely.
Dear Dore,
Peaceful beauty is always found in your lovely home.. I am glued to your beautiful column. The finish is so gorgeous.. Is this work of your gifted hands? I see your soul in this room.
Sending you a warm hug,
Penny

Always love when you post Dore. Such serenity comes with each of your decor touches. This bedroom is so pretty and what a beautiful sanctuary. Love the feel to this room. I cannot wait for you to find that perfect chandelier for over the bed. How gorgeous that will be. That bed is a stunner. Love it all.

love the little French room. everything goes well together and looks like it was meant to be there.
Oh so gorgeous! I love the bedding, it looks so soft and inviting. I love the thought that a room is never done just keeps evolving as you come across treasures to add.
This is so lovely. I can't wait to see more of your vintage decor, new follower! xxx....Brooke from

A beautiful romantic French bedroom....a gorgeus bed and a maybe a old French chandelier makes the room complete...i love it all......and your pictures are always great....nice week and warm greetings from Marjon
If I were to enter this room in a b&b I would gasp...it is so simply pretty. I just love the bedspread, it reminds me of my grandmother and the cypress trees are wonderful!
A beautiful, understated room filled with French subtlety. Each item carefully selected with purpose that does not overshadow any other item.

Dore, it so soft and beautiful. I love the detail of the iron bed and the pops of color add interest and draws you in without disturbing the peacefulness. Lovely ...
So glad you like the gazing balls, I can't wait to see yours, I know it will be fabulous!
Hugs,
Patti
I literally melt when I see photos of your home - it's exactly how I'd love mine to be - and how sadly, it'll never be !
I also love that you don't look for pieces - but wait till they find you - I get that completely - it's kind of how I fill my home too! Just wish the pieces that find me were as gorgeous as the ones that find you !!!
Off to pin !
xoxo
Ohhhhh Dore, that bed!!! It's gorgeous! The whole room looks amazing and so serene. I'd be a hard guest to get rid of! Love the little painting of the tree's too, it's such a simple but catching addition.
I got your email and added you as an invited reader to my blog. Hope it comes through! Hugs:)
i so honor your approach to allowing a room to develop over time. i take a similar one, and it makes for so much more interest and gratification i think. i have had one emotional rollercoaster after the other lately. this time with negotiations on our home which are not yet resolved. it means sleepless nights and stomach aches. i am trusting the great comforter to carry me through these valleys. we are leaning toward purchasing a vacation retreat in the desert and a new-ish condo here which i will transform cosmetically. it could be an interesting process to blog about since it will involve downsizing from a 5,000 sf manor house to half that space spread over 2 very different properties. i'll keep you posted, my friend. love and peace to you.
Your bedroom is lovely and I have column envy.
I have only seen one, at an antique store in Agoura and they wanted $195 for it. The same shop had a vintage ladder recently that was $685. I need to find vintage stuff at lower prices.
That bed is fantastic, the room is fantastic, you are fantastic. Love this beautiful room, dear Dore.
Hugs from here
I am late to visit this exquisite little room, but so glad I did not miss all the wonderful details here. The oil painting is my favorite touch. That wonderful bed and linens is perfection!
What a beautiful room and perfect for your guests - though they may never want to leave. Love the bed!
The iron bed is gorgeous, Dore. The way you've dressed it is perfection.
Even though the room seems to have few pieces...it exudes such luxury.
Love it all!!

Each tiny detail causes one to linger longer to breathe it all in.
I do love the pediment at the bedside topped with lovely roses, no doubt sending their intoxicating perfume across the room...
Susan
Beautifully Simple, Dore! Love it!
Beautiful!!...such a relaxed yet elegant space.
There is just something so special...so calming....so "centering"...about a room that is simple and uncluttered in it's feel. I love this space, Dore. I truly believe that less is more, especially in a bedroom. It is just beautiful!
xoxo laurie
Oh my gosh, you have two iron beds! I thought you were talking about the other one. Your house is like a sanctuary it is so beautiful. I love the quiet simplicity of this room, and that little bunch of flowers sets it all off just perfectly. Wow... just amazing

Oh....you have this down perfectly - perfectly imperfect. I love a bed that isn't made perfectly and the lightness of the room reminds me of many places I stayed in Europe. What a lovely, lovely room you created. Thank you for sharing with us - love peeking inside your home!!
Lots of love and hugs
elizabeth
