Innocent In French Style

Burlap Luxe Home Designs

The French often design as they go-nor do they ever consider a room finished.
A small space I take rest in knowing its imaginatively designed for
its small space. And it all looks effortless, as if it has its small space under control.

A chandelier will soon be added to the comfort of this French sleeping room.
I never look for pieces to fill a space, I wait for the piece to find me with
an emotional attachment to its, French flea market charm.

Column serves as a night-table adding a sense of innocent in
country French.
An antique pitcher filled with fresh clippings embraces a room that
feels put together.

Piles of misplaced pillows add to a relaxed luxe.

Cotton quilts, mattelasse, and linen, a favorite in a gathered rustic
French room of rest.

1. Mattelasse european imported fabric by Taylor Scott
2. Lauren, by Ralph Lauren european sham natural linen stripe
3.French linen lumbar pillow sham sewn by Dore Burlap Luxe

In a French bed-room linen drapes or curtain panels are generously flounced.

Sharply defined cypress trees painted in oils add richly in its shapely aged
gold frame. A favorite surprise in a room of aged whites.

A tattered cotten hem adds to the feeling of less care, rustic in every way. Yet softens the
harder edges of bold iron feet and scalloped footboard.

A casual distressing in French rural cottage style.
Thank you for visiting my small cottage bedroom.

xx
bisous
Dore

  6. Dear sweet Dore, I have not been able to visit my beloved bloggers very much over the summer because of arthritis in my hands. Having spent the last half hour going over your posts, I see I have missed so much.I love the way you married up the 2 pieces(the chest and the cabinet). I still have a hutch I purchased over a year ago and am waiting to find a piece to pair with it.

The French Quarter lantern fixture you purchased is wonderful. I purchased a shiny brass one quite some time ago and finally got around to spray painting it black a couple of weeks ago--not easy with the hands. It is not nearly so old as yours, nor does it have such charm, but I am happy with it now hanging in my family room. Your entire house, including Hannah's room is so inspiring and it was so much fun catching up on all you have been doing. I hope my hands will improve a lot more, so I can continue to blog and visit those blogs I love so much. Take care, dear friend!

  8. Doré,
A holiday filled with rain and seeing your new post truly is like sunshine. Your bedroom is amazing in it's simplicity it speaks of sophistication ... Your French iron bed, beautifully patina whiteness, hand painted in your signature talent is SUBLIME. Grandeur in it's scrolls and architectural design but with the austerity of the room it becomes calm, peaceful and rural French.

Matelassé is always beautiful and in white always understated perfection. A staple in our home although in our climate half the year a down comforter shares in dressing the bed.Your column is gorgeous, as you know I have a weakness for them ;-)
Peaceful rest in your beautiful room.
    XOXO,
    Vera

  9. Serene and beautiful. I long for our guest room to look as this. It's on my growing list of redecorating our home and we haven't even finished our master bedroom yet.

I adore your style, as I always say, I know.

I truly adore that Cypress oil, it calls my name.

  12. Oh Doré,
this Quilt is so unique and beautiful, and also I love this plain linen pillow so much. I am saoking in these impressions to motivate me. I have collected stocks (!) of old linen, but I need the push of inspiration to FINALLY do it, take out this machine and start - ah, thank you so much for the inspiration!! We have a fotoshooting here again, but then... I will look at your beautiful inspiring post one more time to start... sewing and quilting, ohhhh yesss - as my old stuff is torn and battered (and this is a not very decorativ way ;))
So, have a wonderful day, this bedroom is just french and charming as it could be,

  14. Bonjour ma belle!

Lovely in every way. Every corner refined, yet simple. Every texture is rough and rustic, which adds that LUXE...what a wonderful riddle and harmony this makes!

We just had our rustic French country exposed beams installed yesterday. I am beyond excited. The only thing I wish was that I would have been able to get the more white-washed color to the wood, but I AM HAPPY with them. We found the lightest stain we could but the color is dark. However, the roughness of the wood combined with our chandelier and other refined pieces is a marriage of luxe and aged simplicity.

WONDERFUL ROOM - a perfect place pour la sieste!!!!!!!

  15. My favorite time of day is when I'm just waking up. When dreams are interlaced with the soft dawn light, and dreamworld ideas fill my head.

You must dream in French, Dore. Everything is lovely.

I also love that you don't look for pieces - but wait till they find you - I get that completely - it's kind of how I fill my home too! Just wish the pieces that find me were as gorgeous as the ones that find you !!!
    Off to pin !

  33. i so honor your approach to allowing a room to develop over time. i take a similar one, and it makes for so much more interest and gratification i think. i have had one emotional rollercoaster after the other lately. this time with negotiations on our home which are not yet resolved. it means sleepless nights and stomach aches. i am trusting the great comforter to carry me through these valleys. we are leaning toward purchasing a vacation retreat in the desert and a new-ish condo here which i will transform cosmetically. it could be an interesting process to blog about since it will involve downsizing from a 5,000 sf manor house to half that space spread over 2 very different properties. i'll keep you posted, my friend. love and peace to you.

  34. Your bedroom is lovely and I have column envy.

I have only seen one, at an antique store in Agoura and they wanted $195 for it. The same shop had a vintage ladder recently that was $685. I need to find vintage stuff at lower prices.
