 Forced Misshapen Rural Mud

 Objects Of Desire

over 59 years ago my grandparents purchased a country home that was
already 250 years old.
In this home was family heirlooms that my grandparents
became the new caretakers. Old film plates date this
rural farmhouse trunk back 250 plus years.

Its original milk washed French bleu paint was amazing, yet had been
painted over with a black-green that left me no other choice than to
strip it back to its rawness and add new history in a washed and
distressed white... A lime waxed technique.

This trunk chest adds a sense of simplicity of all things peasant and
rural to my French home without a gap in it fitting in.

 Idea To Inspire A
Lantern
 Seaside French Lantern

This vintage lantern made of hand forged iron trimmed in barley twisted iron
was purchase from a beautiful seaside home yard sale in
Malibu, California.

Washed in years of sea mist, aged in the beauty of white and galvanized grey.
A French lantern that needed to come with me and where would I hang it was not
my concern, I just knew I had to have it.

It has moved about my home in a vignette or two and pushed aside in my
home office space out of the way until now!

A Side Table Lantern Lamp

I wired the pendant length wire and chain with new wire, then
attached a toggle switch for tuning it off and on.

Enough wire and a plug was added in length long enough to not
limit my moving it about and where outlets may be at my access.

Yes, it came to thought that I did not have to hang it quite yet, I could
find some uniqueness in its use until a good fit is constructed.

Perfectly aged with all the rightness of a patina to love.
Chippy whites layered on a patina of grey and
sea rust.

Within this space it became interesting with light, and
it casts interesting reflections around the room.
  The Black-Eye Susan's
all dried up add to whats all natural in our
fall home.

Late In The Day

the light warms in the stillness.

Inspiring a lantern for a lamp.

Hi Dore,
How exciting for you! Congratulations on your feature in Country French magazine!!! I am biased, of course, because I know how wonderful your dishes are. I use them every day and can attest to the beauty and quality of each piece.
I'm glad you were able to remove the dark paints from the trunk. It's wonderful. I have a large one, also. I always wonder what treasures it held all those years ago before it was mine.
Have a happy week, Dore. xoxo, T.

Evening Doré,
How I enjoyed this post. It is a feast for the eyes and a delightful share. Congrats on the magazine feature, we use your pitcher daily for our half and half with our French press coffee. John and I look forward to enjoying your pasta bowl ... What I also think needs to be mentioned is the care and research you did to find the perfect glazes - glazes that are lead free and hold up to daily use.

I think your chest turned out perfect and in each passing year memories have been stored with the chest as witness to the richness of living lives well loved. Your heirloom holds 250+ years of your family legacy and I love that.

Love your lantern, your repurposed light graces your home with new form and function. I have enjoyed seeing it displayed and propped in your vignette settings and I am intrigued by the beauty it holds in its rustic patina aquired over time.

Oh and I love the hardware on your armoire - sexy in its styling and the twisted grapevine is simplistic bounty from nature. This fall nature is decorating my home and there is much comfort and warmth in its natural rustic state.
xoxo,
Vera

What an incredible heirloom you have in that trunk, dore! It looks so pristine and fresh. Love seeing your artful pottery in the magazine...what a thrill! I hope you are well as the season changes and so many of us begin to spend more time indoors nesting. My own nest still needs much order! We will get there, and i have some deadlines which are succeeding at getting me there sooner than later. peace and love to you.

Hi Dore~
How special that you have the trunk that belonged to your grandparents. It's so beautiful with it's iron handles and it's new finish looks rustic and perfect. The salvaged piece is lovely with the withered vine laying about it. Architectural salvaged pieces are some of my favorites. Congratulations on the feature of your pottery. Such deserved recognition. The lantern was a wonderful find! A very inspiring post with your handmade wreathe and personal touches all around. Thank you and peaceful wishes for your week.

HA, that HAD to be featured there, OH yes!! Well deserved, as your pottery is so "Provence". Only Astier de Vilatte comes close - well, and they are in Paris anyway ;).
And then... the TRUNK! Inherited and brought back to life, it seems, it says, hmmm, I feel good... and I sing along "and I know with Doré you would!" :))
You spread this French atmosphere, wherever you create, Doré, a true artist, and, ohoo, the LANTERN, hoooooooooooooo, with this delicate inner light-living is a WOW. Just left it there stripped to the beautiful bones, yess. And that you decided, NOT to hang it, and that is is so huge and the inner so delicate, this is art... oh my...
Fall is here. With grapewine at your home, hopp (is it called that way? The stuff you need for making beer...) at mine.
HAPPY FALL, Doré, and HA! again, congrat´s from me, huggggiiiiies! I am so happy to know your blog :)

Oh my, so much loveliness to enjoy in this new post! First of all, what a special piece to have in your home, something handed down from your grandpa, that you made your own. And love the fall vignette you displayed on top of it. And so happy that your pottery was featured in Country French magazine where it fits perfectly! I am proud to be owner of some of that pottery! It gets used alot but also looks so French Farmhouse displayed in my kitchen. I hope to collect much more of it! The lantern is just so wonderful and genius used on the table! That patina is gorgeous! Love the handmade wreath and the black eyed susan dried on the table adding that touch of fall from nature! That has inspired me to try that this year! Hope you have an enjoyable and creative Autumn season! Lisa Xx
