Burlap Luxe Home
Aged over the years, the old crock has taken on years of use, as well as a
patina of well used through its passage of time.
I love using old pieces in rather not such common places in
my home. Changing the look of a room can be as easy as,
a couple of old pieces salvaged from the kitchen to a
side table in a living room.
Past Makes For Perfect
Chips and rust from the clay body of this ironstone crock adds to
the patina of time. Well suites and increases living with age and
character of all things old.
I wanted a little more charm to a side table, adding planks that helped it feel
rural French added past to the present.
Iron urns salvaged from the outdoors, layered with gathered French
vintage pieces that tell a story in how and why living with
found pieces is easy.
Everything in this room and my home has seen...
the passage of time.
There is a special joy in discovering new beauty in things
When I design I like to start from the floor up,
never overlooking how a pieces sits so grounded in its space.

The effect of how I live certainly inspires the mood I create in.
My Latest art piece is a Cartapesta plaster hand-molded and shaped by
my hands, Sea Angel decayed by the salted air.
Inspired by being in the midst of the sea.
Stands: 8" 1/2 x 4" 1/2 wing span.
"THE SEA SEPARATES LAND, NOT SOULS."
The Midst Of The Sea
decayed old sea weathered in French Nordic grey, seaside sand beige, layered in
decayed whites and bronzed golds.
My hand twisted French wire-work art crown sits firmly embedded, barnacled with sea
glass and stones along with a tattered fragment of whats left of sea netting..
Known for my use of vintage book words ephemera,
the fitting gathered words...
"the midst of the sea."
lines the hem.
In the shades of my crusty gathered French oyster shells, this
angel of the sea came about.
" The sea, the sea, the sea. It rolled and rolled and called to me.
Come in, it said, come in."

"Inspiration is all around me"
Good evening Doré,
I love the addition of planks to the side table top - once repurposed from a desk, you amaze and inspire us all to create from our imagination to satisfy our soul. I find your sea Angel incrediable, she has great beauty and I can see how oyster shells inspired you with her patina. I look at your vintage crock and think of an aunt who used to make pickles in one very similar. Seeing your crock brought back memories of her but also now I am craving a pickle! Your home soothes in its appreciation of nature and patina.
I always enjoy coming here to see your home and the beauty of how you use things, old and weathered. Or even create them to look old as you did with the plank top. I love that idea so much! I love old crocks and old urns. I love how the sea angel looks like she came from the oysters out of the sea! And she is weathered and worn through the years! Kind of a mystical feel to her.:)
If only I myself could weather as well. The post is so beautifully
written. you out did yourself again. That sculpture of the Angel
is lovely. yvonne

So beautiful Dore! Your artwork is so lovely and so creative as well. I love the light and airy look of your home.
I painted and distressed a couple of furniture pieces this week. And although I'm very happy with how they turned out, when I look at my few pieces of furniture with authentic timeworn patina there is no comparison. lol
Have a wonderful week! xo

At my wedding, all the guests (literally, all) told me how the food surpassed all expectations, since wedding food generally sucks. The brisket at DC wedding venues was mind-blowing. My husband also had some custom choices for food that the chef easily made and incorporated.
Dore, this is beautiful and the angel is so delicate. I love how peaceful your home is.
Dore - the sea angel is perfection in all her beauty. She takes me right back to Rhode Island and the wonderful ocean beaches and the treasures found on the shore. Your talents are immeasurable and such attention to every little detail...beautiful Dore, simply beautiful!
Dore'!!!! All so beautiful.
Living your life in beauty, surrounding yourself with it, making it, oh yes!!!!!
