Grandpas Old Door

"Click on photo to enlarge detail"

Inspiring the connection this door made with me.

This is a how the side table looked before I placed my grandparents 200 year old dinning room door behind it as a back drop to recycled finds adding a perfectly pale pallette of grey.

As a child I remember opening this door often on my visits to there desert home in Action California. It was a door that opened to the history of there weekend home allowing them to find peace and calm from the busyness of Hollywood where my grandfather was an "art producer" for "Paramount Movie Picture Studios" It was a home that at times was used for filming movies in, but most important a home where we enjoyed the holidays and the quiet it whispered.
I think I am the only family member since the passing of my grandparents that understood the story this door had and I made sure that it came home with me as if it were more than what it is rather than less than what it is paying close attention to it's life. A door now that leads nowhere other than the memories it holds, memories that all things have a story and a place in the journey.

I am giving this door space to show off its beautiful imperfections and the soul it has acquired. The beauty of using these treasure in our homes is you don't have to be picky in what you have acquired, the history in themselves set a tone for story telling and the story in this door is mine.

Inspiring the connection this door made with me.

  5. WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA MY DEAREST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks amazing, AND I love the fact that your grand père was in the Hollywood business! Oh, those days of Hollywood glamor and beauty of the homes.

Dearest, I am thinking that instead of dedicating an entire post to INTRODUCING the theatre posts, that I am just going to DO THE POST, with no announcements. I had a very difficult time yesterday trying to come up with something in the way I enjoy doing things, in a poetic way. I am going to just JUMP into the post with no announcements. SO, for the this COMING FRIDAY, do you just want to post your theatre post and then we can just link to each other? I am having a lot of stress at work and I come home late and very tired and I am having a really difficult CREATE SLUMP at the moment, and to have to think about TWO posts related to the matter is leaving me EMPTY!!! What do you think? Anita

  7. Pieces like this mean more than anything that could ever be bought from a store! I'm so glad you are the one who has the door because you will cherish and love it and truly appreciate its history. It looks just perfect behind the table.

  14. Dear Dore, ahhh, the precious stories within this door. I am in love with the idea of a door that leads to nowhere, yet endless memories are kept safe there within it's threshold.A time forgotten by many, but cherished by those who hold the key. This my fried is a treasure, I am so happy you were able to salvage the door, and it's heirloom memories.I wish I would have had the forsight to have saved pieces from my grandparents old homeplace. Sadly, I live in Ky, they were in Illinois, and the house was torn down, it's pieces burned. My grandmother had deserved a new home for many years, and I suppose too many years of hardship, and hard farm living overshadowed the old home, and it's treasures within. I was told grandmother wanted virtually nothing to remind her of the place, when grandad built her a new house. I hope the new house brought her much happiness. I know this door will bring you many moments of joy, and each new memory created within your home will be kept safe for your loved ones to carry on, through the door.. Fairy blessings my friend. XOXO Christel

  16. The door is so beautiful in its new place. The depth of meaning behind it is priceless. I think I am the only one in my family that has collected items from my great grandma and grandma's. Even my Mom has handed down some precious pieces of hers to me already. She knows how much I value what belongs to family. And now I save treasures to pass on to my girls. love to you and Hannah. ox Kerrie

  20. Oh Dore, It isn't a door to nowhere, but a door to the past. What a beautiful thought and a lovely personal treasure for you. I can't help but thinking one of your pretty signs hanging from a corner would be nice.
I'd love to have you join our linky party and share your gorgeous post, I know they always bring me pleasure.

  21. Ma chère amie,

THANK YOU....MERCI MILLE FOIS for understanding!! I am so tired at night from work that I only have Thursdays now to get my post started. I tried yesterday (Sunday) to start but so dry, dry, dry with no ideas for TWO posts. SO, yes, this Friday we can simply post our theatre post and LINK TO EACH OTHER. I so wish I could promise a full-blown play, but I have already done that in the past and there are many reasons why I choose not to do another one this year...one is FATIGUE!!!

OK, so this Friday NIGHT for me...and I will link to you.

MERCI FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING !!! Anita

  31. Ma belle Doré,

OK, I am here at 6:15pm, with only a few hours to come up with something!!!!

I have NO idea what to do for the post. I rely heavily on photos for my muse and I cannot find any that suit me. My own theatre pictures are just not satisfactory and I was expecting some new twinkle lights in the mail today and they did not come. I was hoping that they could spice up my theatre and they did not arrive!

Are you willing to go it alone or put it off for another week??????? PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I am so empty at the moment!!! Anita

Please let me know dearest...I don't want to ruin your plans. It is just that I spend all day at work and come home with very limited energy and TIME...so I am trying to put something together that also reflects my style...please let me know! Anita

  35. Chère Doré!!!!!!

OK, I finally got my HEADER made. For me, (I am funny this way), I have to have a new header for special posts! I always try to get the right feel for the mood I want to evoke. I do have a THEME and idea in my head, but it is hard to find the pictures! SO LET'S DO THIS. I DOUBT if I am going to be able to CLICK that publish button tonight, for after school, I will come home to what I suspect will be a long night of looking for photos. Can we PUBLISH our posts on Saturday morning around 10:00 my time????? YOU TOO ARE HAVING TROUBLE with your camera?

I hope my lights come tonight; I just do NOT like to show bad photography!

Let me know dearest; I have to run off now to school. I will be home around 6:00, my time.

    BISOUS!!! Anita

  37. Dearest Dore:

I love the beauty and most importantly the meaning and signification of the opening and closing of this door. Your insightful viewpoint pours forth from your heart as you write with wit, imagination and nostalgia about the more down-to-earth realities of your childhood and the love, family and enjoyment you had found there. To this day you carry the beauty of your inheritance passed on to you in artistic expression.

Never stop creating -- you bring joy to us all.

  38. Good evening ma belle!

I am finally able to get to a computer. My school day is much too involved AND they do not allow for teachers to use the computers for social networking so I am finally here!!!!!

YES, it looks as if my idea is finally coming around, but I won't be able to post until tomorrow at that time....10:00am my time. I am just too tired and will only get a few things added tonight. YOU ARE SO KIND TO UNDERSTAND my school life and schedule. If I could, I would be a blogger all day long as a LIVING!!!!

SEE YOU TOMORROW MY DEAREST, Anita
