If I were a bird this is where I would want to live, over looking the room singing, just singing.
My passion remains undimmed for collecting birdcages and birdhouses. As a designer I feel the trend of adding nature to our homes will never wither away. Like many collections, it doesn't matter what you collect as long as its done with passion. Mixing your collecting into your home design without looking like a collection. I am enamored with this cage, it truly has my heart.

I adore my vintage collection of old rickety birdcages. I find myself adding to them and then selling off the ones I can do without. European flea market style decorating allows you to incorporate new with the old, elegant piece's with the rustic, adding uncommon elements to complete your flea market style.

    Wow, they're beautiful. And had no idea so pricey. We missed out on a free vintage cage two weeks ago. Long story, but suffice it to say I'm sure it will be in an antique shop for a lot. It would have been free, a roadside find, hubby went back to get it and it was gone.

    So pretty...my grandmother had a large round cage built with cedar posts and wire in her backyard. In the summer it was home to about a dozen parakeets. I dream of something like that!!

    Oh ma chère amie,

    I always say when I see something breathtakingly stunning and I find that it is FRENCH, I always smile. When we were in France several years ago, my husband even commented and said, "I love the way the French make things, with such quality and style." TRUE! There is a sublime beauty, NOT TOO ORNATE, especially of this country, farmhouse nature, that I JUST LOVE and you are correct; incorporating nature themes into our collections will never go out of style!

    Thank you as always, for coming to visit with me. I have been so busy lately with work and coming home to view all the progress on our two rooms. Soon we will be moved in, for all that is left to do is paint, put up the trim and closet doors to my husband's office. It is so GORGEOUS! But we do need to find a chandelier and have the exposed beams put in but not until a couple of months for that work was not included in the price. Oh, the cost!!!!

    You are a woman after my own heart dear Dore. I have been collecting birdcages for years, even went through a phase of making lots of them last summer. Mine, unfortunately, are nothing like yours! Yours are romantic, elegant, unique - any bird would be enticed to fly and nest in one. Mine - not even fit for a crow!     Love this post Dore about bird cages. I have a small collection, but none of them are truly vintage.
    I also appreciate your comment on my post about the books. My point was simply to enjoy books for all the reasons you stated, that books to me are sacred. It's the romantic in me! The thought of tearing off the covers though just so they fit the decor seems weird. I do like the look too, only if the books are truly old, and well loved. Then, it is wonderful to preserve them and keep instead of discarding.
    I knew when I wrote this post that I was sticking my neck out there! Some people will disagree with me for sure. I guess I don't understand why Pottery Barn is selling torn up books for $39! You can bet they weren't "found" that way.

    Meow, mew Dore! I am so sorry I missed you when you stopped by....you should have woke me, I would have loved to share some creme with you. That sunbeam was just so heavenly and it lulled me to sleep before I even knew what happened. Now it is gone and my Dore has returned home.....so I did what any loyal cat would do.....I came by YOUR home to visit with you! And I see you left some warm creme out for me...come sit with me and we'll share this....

    Did you notice "her" birdcage display there in the office? "She" too has a love of old birdcages!!!! "She" has been wanting to put them out on display and make some sort of vignette with them, but it's slow coming....I will show "her" your post and collection and purrhaps this will lead to some inspiration. I am certain it will not be as elegant as yours, you know how "she" puts a weird twist to whatever "she" does....

    The bird houses and sign you made are (as is the norm) beautiful!!!!!! Such talent and love in those two paws of yours!!!! I think purrhaps I'll stay just a bit longer....maybe some of your talent will rub off on me so that I can carry it home to "her".....

    I'm baaaaaack! haha. Return visit to say that yes, I realize the whole burlap, feedsack, Belgian European look is where this is coming from. And I really love that look too. When I was at Round Top in Texas, there was a dealer who was selling the most beautiful books ever. They were all from Denmark! But it was that look, some with parchment covers, some with marbled covers, all gorgeous.
    I was also considering adding my two cents in my post about the Kindle and how it is replacing books in a way. I think you should write it though! ~Delores

    Just beautiful Dore! I always wonder with vintage things, what their stories are and where they have been, the people that loved them and what they were like. It is somewhat romantic to think of all the possibilities. These bird cages make me wonder as well, what beautiful little bird inhabited them and the wonderful songs they must have sang!     I'm back to life after the long beach flea this weekend! I LOVE birdhouses, and birds, but can't bring myself to have a caged one so I feed the wild ones. These are fine examples and reasonably priced, as antique ones get crazy expensive. I love yours, they are in budget! wishing you a lovely week!

    Those bird cages are unbelievably beautiful. Oh, I love them! They fetch quite a high ticket (and the craftsmanship & antiquity is worth every penny). I love your little collection, too.     All was fabulous -- and I couldnt agree more with your love for vintage bird cages-house. However, you work is lovely and affordable -- so I may not spend 3600, on a vintage piece but I would buy yours.
    Merci--- Yes I received the beautiful hand painted poetry & bird plaque. First let me say it came nicely wrapped package with great attention to detail in shipping & handling.
    Gave me great confidence in ordering from you again, for I know it will arrive safely.

    Secondly, I love it, I cannot say enough about this pretty painting on wood. I loved it the first moment I saw it on your blog, and now as I look at it in my home, I wonder why I waited to buy it. All I can say it was not an impulse buy , however more out of love for the beauty of this piece.

    This will be my inspiration piece, and I am going to take pictures of it and place it on my side bar with reference to your blog, and also use it in place of the fleur de lis I often use at the end of my poetry on my blog.

    At one time I had a floral and herb business and its name was 'bird hill gardens' so it has a deeper & richer meaning then just a pretty piece.

    The last thing I would like to mention is the quality -- often and I am sure this happens to others as well that something looks great in the photo but when it arrives, well disappointment, NOT HERE -- when I opened the package it was everything I imaged.
